About

A comprehensive access management and time tracking system at DIN headquarters in Berlin

The German Institute for Standardization (DIN) is an independent body for standardization in Germany and around the world. From 2017 to 2020, DIN headquarters underwent a complete renovation of its buildings, which had been constructed between 1956 and 1999. The result was a state-of-the-art structure that reflects current and future workplace requirements. As part of the renovation process, DIN wanted to harmonize its time tracking and access control systems, ultimately opting to use dormakaba solutions.

Harmonizing systems

About 750 DIN employees and tenant employees work in the adjoining buildings, so naturally security takes high priority. “As part of the renovations, we wanted to harmonize our systems, so we looked for a combined system with time tracking, access control and visitor management capabilities from a single source,” explains Markus Draga (DIN Facility Management Group Leader).

A single system with complete security

Employees now enter their working hours in state-of-the-art terminals that communicate directly with the SAP system. The access management system manages access rights for all employees, along with the electronic and mechanical master key components, in a single system. Employees arriving by car stop at the gate to the underground garage. The system uses the ANPR Lumo camera from Nedapto identify the license plate, then the gate opens automatically.

Access: under control, thanks to entrance systems

Entrance systems in the lobby regulate access for employees and visitors alike. An Argus 80 dual sensor barrier with Nedap card and QR code reader was installed in each building foyer for this purpose. The entrance systems were also fitted with a SafeRoute escape door terminal to open immediately during an emergency. The access control system records visitors too.

dormakaba and premium partners: setting a standard for success

The complete system, including alarm and CCTV,was installed by Berlin-based KNORR Alarm und Elektronik GmbH, which was also instrumental in consulting and planning for the security concept.
